The Lübbenau Castle
and the
counts of Lynar
The former county of Lübbenau was purchased by the Lynar family, a noble family from Tuscany (Italy) in 1621. Their crest was decorated with a snake and a tower. The family came to Germany through the famous fortress builder Rochus Count of Lynar.
The last count of Lübbenau was Wilhelm Friedrich.
He was executed by the Nazis in 1944 due to his involvement in the failed attempt to assassinate Hitler on July 20th 1944, and the family was disowned.
After Germany’s reunification a part of the former belongings was given back the family in 1992, and the family returned to Lübbenau.
